Justin Bieber has said that he wants to pull a Justin Timberlake on his next album. So what exactly does that mean? His longtime vocal producer, Kuk Harrell, spoke to MTV News about the early stages of Bieber’s next release.
“The only conversation we’ve had about Justin’s album that we’re about to do is it’s really important that it’s the proper transition because we’ve seen him [with] ‘Baby,’ now we’re watching him grow up,” said Harrell, who has also worked with Rihanna on her Talk That Talk record. “And we can’t just throw him into the adult game right away. It has to be the proper transition. There’s a record in between.”
With further details on this next album being kept under wraps, Bieber is busy celebrating the holidays. He’s slated to release his video for “All I Want for Christmas,” co-starring Mariah Carey, on Wednesday. Harrell worked with Bieber on his Under the Mistletoe LP and says agreeing to do a Christmas album with the teen phenomenon was an easy yes.
“That’s why I think this Christmas album was really important because it gave everybody the opportunity to hear him, see him and get used to his voice changing,” he said. “That was a huge thing going into this album. We were able to get a running start on where he’s at vocally ’cause it’s a natural thing. When his proper album comes out, everybody’s going to really be looking at that.”
What will be noticeably different on this next album, which was teased on his holiday album, is that Bieber’s voice will be much deeper. So does Harrell think it’ll be changing a lot more for this next record? “I think he’s pretty good right now,” he said. “It’s just a matter of him settling [into] where he is.”
Regardless of what magic does end up making the final cut on this album, which Bieber has said may include work from Drake and Kanye West, Harrell notes that the 17-year-old is “always willing to bring a new fire.”

MTV News’ own Jim Cantiello is exclusively covering “The X Factor” rehearsals. Read on for his fly-on-the-wall backstage report!
LOS ANGELES ? “The X Factor” top seven are back on the lot after their first (and only) mini-vacation of the season. And as the Thanksgiving tryptophan wears off, the anxiety of another double elimination is setting in.
Adding to the stress? “The X Factor” is tackling the songs of Michael Jackson on Wednesday night (November 30), on the 29th anniversary of Thriller‘s release, no less.
One of the contestants is so stressed over the theme he’s emerged as a total perfectionist. During Monday’s rehearsals, he had already nixed multiple arrangements the show had provided him. “This is the most unprepared I’ve felt on a Monday,” he said to his mentor as they rushed out of Stage 36. There was a camera crew chasing them to capture the drama ? as well as the ensuing late-night emergency meeting with the vocal coaches ? so don’t be surprised if some of this intense footage ends up in your living room. (This afternoon’s dress rehearsal went swimmingly, for the record.)
Meanwhile, one contestant had a full-on battle with his/her mentor over a chair. The mentor said, “Sit and sing.” The contestant said, “Again?! How about I do something on my feet for Michael Jackson week?” Another mentor came to the defense of the contestant. In the end, the contestant is sitting after all. Don’t worry, contestant. The eerie arrangement of an MJ classic is what folks are going to be buzzing about. No one will care if you sit or stand. In the control room, I spied one of the bigwigs utter the word “brilliant!” after the contestant’s dress rehearsal.
Another hot topic: wardrobe! When paying homage to one of the biggest music icons ever, it’s tempting for the stylists to include clothing nods to Michael’s various looks. But several singers are worried they’ll look too much like Jackson impersonators, which has caused many a headache in the wardrobe trailer. But stylist June Ambrose is still able to keep things light in the midst of the drama. While waiting around for a contestant’s last-minute fitting, she started an impromptu MJ dance party on the lot. Crotch grabs and “woo” included!
Lastly, Paula Abdul’s sunny energy has been noticeably absent on the CBS lot now that all her groups have been eliminated. She went from being the most hands-on mentor to an on-set ghost. “The X Factor” family can’t wait to welcome her back for her first live show as strictly a judge. Kim Kardashian is ready to be an aunt again. The reality star has taken to her blog to send love to her big sister Kourtney, who just announced she’s pregnant with her second child. Kourtney and boyfriend Scott Disick already have a son, Mason.
“I have some amazing news to share with you all! Kourtney and Scott are expecting their second child!!” Kim wrote in a post on Wednesday (November 30). “This is such a blessing and the whole family is beyond thrilled! I just know Mason will make the best big brother and I can’t wait to meet my new little niece or nephew! Congratulations Kourtney and Scott.”
Kourtney’s sister Khloé is also excited to become an aunt again.
“I am BEYOND thrilled to fiiiiinally be able to share with all of you the fabulous news that my beautiful big sister Kourtney is expecting yet again!” she blogged. “Can you believe it?! Masey is going to be a big brother! We are all so overjoyed by this wonderful news and are counting down the minutes until we get to meet the newest member of our family.
“Kourtney is the greatest mom in the world and I am so proud of the woman she has become. I can’t wait to see her with a kid in each arm!” Khloé continued. “She’ll be a pro. LOL. And if this next baby is anything like Mason, then we will truly be the luckiest family in the world. Congratulations, Kourt, Scott and Mason!!!! I love you all more than anything!”
Kourtney, Kim, Scott, Mason and Kim’s soon-to-be ex-husband, Kris Humphries, are all currently starring on the second season of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York.” Coincidentally, Kourtney kicked off a mommy blog and web series for the E! website earlier this week, opening up about how she dresses her tyke.
Back in May, when MTV News caught up with Kourtney, she talked about the chances of a ” Khloé & Lamar”-style spin-off for her and Scott. “Not yet!” she said. “I think there’s enough going on that [Scott will] be on all of the other shows that we have going on.”

Baseball Wives, a spinoff of Basketball Wives, premieres tonight on VH1, and when it does, Anna Benson, the craziest baseball wife of all, will be front and center.
For those unfamiliar with the wife of former Mets pitcher Kris Benson, she’s one of the few baseball wives to ever overshadow the player, who was fairly average.
Nothing average about Anna, a stripper and former Playboy model who once threatened to sleep with the entire Mets organization if Kris cheated on her. Anyway.
During a recent Wives taping, she got into it with Cheri Knoblauch – wife of former Yankee standout Chuck Knoblauch – in an altercation involving sex toys. Really.
According to reports, Anna Benson pulled out a stun gun and set it on a table (gal’s like a female, reality TV version of Gilbert Arenas) in front of her threateningly.
Then, she produced a 12-inch dildo from her purse and started swinging!
Why wield that over the stun gun? Wo carries around a 12-inch dildo? Where do you buy a purse big enough for that faux manhood? Questions for another time.
Sources connected with the show say some of the cast members and even the staffers are now threatening to quit, because they can’t handle Anna’s insanity.

Ever the responsible pet owners, Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald were spotted out for a walk with their dog Enzo yesterday (November 29).
The ?New Moon? actress and her ?American Idol? stud husband both looked cool and casual as they strolled briskly down the Los Angeles street.
In a recent interview, Nikki shared that things have been going quite smoothly since she and Paul tied the knot last month.
“The first year [of marriage] is not the hardest. Gosh, if this is the hardest, then it?s gonna be easy breezy. Even under the most stressful circumstances he and I are such a good team.”
As for family expansion, Reed noted, “I?m not getting pregnant for a long time. One day [I want to], it’s just not what I?m thinking about right now, but I do. I’m young; he’s young [and] we want to be best friends and travel and do stuff.”

Tyrese says tainted seafood did a major number on his insides — sending him to an L.A. hospital last night … TMZ has learned.
According to a rep, Tyrese is recovering at home today … but before he left the hospital he fired off a twitpic of his feet in the hospital bed — and the message, “ER…pray for me.”
Ty’s rep says the singer/actor started feeling sick almost immediately after he went out for a meal yesterday.
The rep says docs sent Tyrese home this morning, and ordered him to stay in bed.
